Rail Support Services
BDS offers rail support services that include stripping or stuffing cargo on the rail box, trans-loading, truck to rail consolidation and deconsolidation of rail inbounds. The deconsolidation process continues with cross – docking into domestic Van trailers for local delivery or into containers for drayage to the ports of Savannah or Charleston for export shipments.
We currently handle rolled pulp or bleach board rolls with 12,000 lb. capacity Caterpillar short turn radius forklifts equipped with 6,250 lb. capacity, 72 inch load center Cascade rotating short arm clamps. The shorter wheel base on our equipment allows operators to safely move cargo in and out of box cars and containers. For smaller diameter, lighter rolls we use Cascade’s 4,850 lb. capacity 51” load center clamp. Use of this clamp has proven to be very effective in handling news print efficiently, without product damage.
Our experienced operators are experts in blocking, bracing, dunnage placement and banding in accordance with cargo securement best practices. We enjoy an excellent record of damage – free shipments and work diligently, every day, to maintain our high standard.
With our 437,500 square foot rail served Augusta Airport Warehouse located directly across from the Norfolk Southern’s South Augusta yard, BDS has cultivated a strong operating relationship with the NS. We are in daily communications with their yard master and train masters to ensure timely delivery of inbound cars and prompt pick – up of empties to avoid costly demurrage charges.
